Just as cancer affects your physical health, it can also cause a wide range of feelings that you are not used to dealing with. It can also make the feelings that do occur seem more intense. These feelings can change daily, hourly or even minute by minute. This is true whether you are currently in treatment, have finished treatment, or are dealing with a friend or family member. All of these feelings are normal.
Whatever you decide to do, it is important to do what is right for you and not compare yourself to others. Your friends and family may share some of the same feelings. If you feel comfortable, share this information with them.
Even when you feel out of control, there are ways to get back in control of the situation. Try to learn as much as you can about your cancer. Ask your doctor and don’t be afraid to say when you don’t understand something.
The good news is that most people outgrow denial. Generally, by the time treatment begins, most people accept the fact that they have cancer and move on. This is true for those with cancer, as well as for the people they love and care about.
We often talk about loneliness, but are we really aware of what this word means? The truth is that the term loneliness can specify many different states, some even pleasant, so we should specify a little more about what it means to be alone and the feelings it causes us.
